Identity Theft

Part 3

How do I live as a COGPOW every day?

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

Matthew 22:37-40 (NLT)

Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.

Galatians 1:10 (NLT)

Live in the “sweet spot” of loving God, myself and others…

  1. …in the gift of ______________.

“So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”

Luke 11:13 (NLT)

  1. …in the gift of ______________.

Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.

Galatians 6:1 (NLT)

Henry David Thoreau famously wrote “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.” Why is that? What is missing in the lives of women and men that leads them to this kind of hopelessness? At the core of our dilemma is a loss of identity. God in Christ invites us to live richly and deeply into our identity as followers of Jesus. At Grace Church, we often use the phrase “child of God and person of worth” or COGPOW to describe our identity in Christ. This series will go deeper into helping us take back our stolen identity.

Ed Horne was born and raised in Fort Myers. His grandparents were charter members of Central UMC when it started in 1922. He grew up in the church, and gave his life to Christ in 1972 at a Vacation Bible School. After high school he took a job managing movie theaters. God used his time there to develop his leadership skills. Ed spent the next 17 years seeking after success and money. In 2001 God got his attention when he lost the theater job. He came back to the church and made his walk to Emmaus in 2005. He finally let Jesus have his full life and became a lay speaker at Central. He was there when the it was adopted by Grace Church, and became part of the Guide Team.

Shortly after he received a call into the ministry. He served in Charlotte Harbor at Trinity UMC. During his three years there, the church experienced growth and in 2017 was awarded the One Matters award by the Conference for the greatest increase in professions of Faith and attendance.

He has now returned home to Grace Church Central Campus.

Ed is also very involved in The Kairos Prison Ministry, which brings the love of Christ to the incarcerated.
He also serves on The District Leadership Committee.

Ed is married to Jami and has three children. Son's Lin and Chris, and daughter Lea. He has two grandsons, Xavien and Cas.
