The basic text of Alcoholics Anonymous (called the “big book”) says this on page 87 about working Step 9 (which includes making amends as well as forgiving others):
“Above all, we should try to be absolutely sure that we are not delaying because we are afraid. For the readiness to take the full consequences of our past acts, and to take responsibility for the well-being of others at the same time, is the very spirit of Step Nine.”
Talk about your fear of forgiving others and of making amends, where that fear might be coming from, and what you can do with the help of God to overcome your fear.
