In the back of the Old Testament are twelve short books written by Hebrew writers. These twelve books are called “the Minor Prophets” not because they are less important than the “Major Prophets” but because their writings are much shorter in length. Prophets serve as those who quicken and awaken the people of God to the concerns of God. Though written hundreds of years ago, the awakening message of these prophets is as needed today in our world as it was in theirs. We are going to look at the message of four of these Minor Prophets and apply it to our contemporary lives.

Part 4
“I hate all your show and pretense—the hypocrisy of your religious festivals and solemn assemblies. I will not accept your burnt offerings and grain offerings. I won’t even notice all your choice peace offerings. Away with your noisy hymns of praise! I will not listen to the music of your harps. Instead, I want to see a mighty flood of justice, an endless river of righteous living.”
Amos 5:21-24 (NLT)
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”
Matthew 22:37-40 (NLT)
How do I stay awakened in my wholehearted worship of God?
“I have always loved you,” says the Lord.
Malachi 1:1a (NLT)
Therefore, say to the people, “’This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Return to me, and I will return to you,’ says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.” Don’t be like your ancestors who would not listen or pay attention when the earlier prophets said to them, “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: ‘Turn from your evil ways, and stop all your evil practices.’”
Zechariah 1:3-4 (NLT)
So now, come back to your God. Act with love and justice, and always depend on him.
Hosea 12:6 (NLT)
