In the back of the Old Testament are twelve short books written by Hebrew writers. These twelve books are called “the Minor Prophets” not because they are less important than the “Major Prophets” but because their writings are much shorter in length. Prophets serve as those who quicken and awaken the people of God to the concerns of God. Though written hundreds of years ago, the awakening message of these prophets is as needed today in our world as it was in theirs. We are going to look at the message of four of these Minor Prophets and apply it to our contemporary lives.

Awaken

Part 3

The Lord gave this message to Micah of Moresheth during the years when Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah were kings of Judah. The visions he saw concerned both Samaria and Jerusalem.

Micah 1:1 (NLT)

How can I be an expression of God’s justice in a world of injustice?

With what shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before God on high? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?” He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

Micah 6:6-8 (NRSV)

Wade into the ______________ of the world to bring ________________ through Christ.

“Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’”

Matthew 25:37-39 (NLT)

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.

James 1:27 (NLT)

But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel, whose origins are in the distant past, will come from you on my behalf.

Micah 5:2 (NLT)

The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish.

John 1:14 (MSG)
